November 2021

Fall is here!  And with it comes the joy of playing in piles of leaves.  At least for the kids.  Max and Theo have been really enjoying the leaves.  And sometimes they even try to help with the raking.  What cute kids!

Max has also been working hard to make the transition completely from balance bike to pedal bike.  I think it has stuck.  He loves riding his bike all around, and he is such a skilled rider.  I love to see the joy on his face as he cruises around.

Gwen was in a musical at Freedom Prep.  It was written by a student at the school.  The plot focused on the greek gods on Mount Olympus and the whole covid situation.  It was fun to watch her perform with her friends.  She was Aphrodite, and got to wear a fun red dress.  Some of her cousins came to watch her and we all went out for ice cream afterwards.  It was a really special evening.  We are so glad that grandparents and cousins live close enough to attend activities like these here in Utah.

Gwen did an awesome science fair project on eggshells.  She has a bright mind.  But I have to say, as a dad, getting ready for science fairs is not my favorite thing in the world.  Always seems to be a stressful situation, and much must always be done the night before.

Alec had a great season of ultimate with the team at Freedom prep.  It is fun to watch him and the team.

Freddy had a big karate tournament at UVU.  What a crazy experience.  So many people there, so much going on.  As parents who have never done karate before, we have little to no idea what we should be doing.  But somehow we figured it out.  Although we got to wait quite a while after his call time before he got to go to his mat.  He got to show of some skills and do some sparring.  He did great with everything.  We could practice his routines a bit more, but he is aggressive and fearless with his sparring.  He did great and it was fun to watch the skills he has been developing.

Theo was under the weather a bit, which means lots of cuddle time.  He also made a fun caterpillar at preschool.

We had a fun night of Creme Brulee together as a family.  Yummy!

Another blessing of living closer to family has been piano lessons with Grandma Archibald.  Freddy has never known another teacher.  So much fun, and we are getting a lot of use out of our piano.

Brittney did amazing and got the printer/craft area organized.  It is one of those areas in the house that seems to very quickly fall into chaos and disorder.  But it sure cleans up nice!

Alec and Charlie helped wash the windows of the house.  This involved some precarious climbing on the pergola, which they seemed to really enjoy.

Our Thanksgiving saga:  this year was a Betteridge year for Thanksgiving, and we were all excited to host.  Especially after not being able to get together with family last year, we were pulling out all the stops. We got lots of fun gold utensils and cups and we were all set to have a great time.

Then Gwen and Freddy weren't feeling well, so we had them tested for covid the Friday before Thanksgiving (we don't remember exactly why, we think it had to do with family coming for Thanksgiving and needing to have more information).  Freddy's test came back positive, so we quarantined as a family.  The tough decision was made to not have family stay with us the next week and it was decided that we wouldn't host Thanksgiving either.  We decided to get the whole family tested the day before Thanksgiving, to see if we should even attend with everyone else up in Herriman.  Charlie tested positive, which was unfortunate.  We decided to still attend, but encourage Charlie to wear a mask and keep his distance from others.  We still brined a turkey and made some delicious pies.  The Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful, and in the end the interactions with everyone seemed pretty normal and unaffected by the whole covid situation.  Man, what a mess.  But we are grateful for family and our many blessings.

Max and Theo are such good friends and cuddle-buddies.  They can often be very gentle and sweet with each other.  Other times not so much, but they have a special brotherly bond.

We visited our neighborhood Christmas tree lot to get a tree.  This year we went with a flocked tree for a change.  It was fun and beautiful.  Christmas is in the air!
